Salute to Nausad Ji

My love for music is very old …I can recall the days of Binaca Geet Mala or Hawa Mehal on radio, Chitrahar on DD then some good collection of Lata & Mukesh , Kishore , RD Da. 24 years back I wasn’t aware of the names and all i knew is that I love music.

Every music lover must have heared “Ankhiya mila ke …” in the golden voice of Suriya and composed by Nausad. Then came Mother India, Mughal-e-Azam, Ganga Jamuna, Mere Mehboob, Ram Aur Shyam, Pakeezah

Music composed before i came into this world but even after 27 years I still love Nausad Ji’s golden work.

I came across one question many times in my life “Why can’t you be satisfied with your creative work?” and then I recall Nausad Ji’s word :

“In my 62 years in the film industry, I composed music for 66 films. These days, you come across people who have done the music 200 films in two years. What I’m saying is that, we used to agonise over every tune and phrase in music, spend sleepless nights over a song, and work on it until it was perfected. And I am still looking for perfection.”

Naushad was one of the first to introduce sound mixing and the separate recording of voice and music tracks in playback singing. In that era music was composed with 100 live orchestra in one shot…any mistake by anyone and start again. He was the first to combine the flute and the clarinet, the sitar and mandolin. He also introduced the accordion to Hindi film music and was among the first to concentrate on background music to extend characters’ moods and dialogues through music

His remarable work in Baiju Bavra will be rememberd as milestone in Indian Music industry forever.

A winner of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award , the last film that Naushad Ji composed music for was Akbar Khan’s Taj Mahal (2005). He passed away in Mumbai on May 5, 2006 due to old age.

Dadu you will be always rememberd as Legend of Music.
